The Doro 8040 was presented at IFA 2017. This phone with an even more intuitive interface also offers more advanced features to reassure seniors and their loved ones. The Doro 8040, the 8031's big brother, gives family and friends direct access to the senior's smartphone. The Swedish brand Doro is offering its first smartphone running Android 7.0 Nougat.
5-inch screen and reworked interface
Known for its mobile phones adapted to the needs of the elderly, Doro highlights the loud and clear sound, the adjustable text size, the well-spaced keys and the assistance key that characterise its devices. With the new Doro 8040, the brand is expanding its range of smartphones and wants to reconcile seniors with new technologies
The new smartphone has a 5-inch screen and HD resolution. It stands out in particular for its "voice dictation" function, which makes it very easy to write text messages, and for the possibility of choosing between the Doro or Android interface, for users who are already familiar with the smartphone. This model retains the interface of the Doro 8031, which guides the user through verbs instead of icons representing Android applications.
This model has several new features compared to flagship phones such as Doro 8031 and Doro Liberto 825, including a more ergonomic and elegant design, with the help button still present to reassure the user and their loved ones. The physical keys have also been redesigned for ease of use.
8 megapixel camera
On the technical side, the Doro 8040 is powered by a MediaTek MT6738 chipset with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable by microSD up to 32GB more). The battery is 2000 mAh. The Doro 8040 is compatible with 4G networks of operators
For photography, the Doro 8040 features an 8-megapixel sensor with flash on the back and 2 megapixels on the front. The smartphone is capable of shooting 1080p video. Also note that the Doro 8031, like all the brand's phones, is hearing aid compatible. The touch-sensitive keyboard is by Swiftkey.
Direct access to the smartphone from a distance
Thanks to the mydoromanager website, family members can take control and have direct access to their parents' smartphone Doro 8040. This way, the family can help the user if he or she wants to change the phone's settings, adjust the sound, easily transmit photos or add contacts.
It also makes it possible to geolocate and lock the smartphone in case of loss. Relatives can also guide the senior through the use of the web browser/email box and alert them to low battery levels or missed calls.
